The competition brief called for a new Haus der Jugend at Südkreuz: a place for music, education, counselling, workshops, encounters and everyday use. At the same time, the building was to provide a long-term spatial perspective for the self-managed collectives Drugstore and Potse.
The design responds with two clearly legible buildings and a shared, protected forum at the centre of the ensemble. Workshop, kitchen, library and event spaces are arranged around this introverted outdoor room, while the solid building volumes also act as spatial and acoustic buffers to the neighbourhood.
