The competition brief for the AK Vienna House of Youth called for a new building on Plösslgasse and Schmöllerlgasse, bringing together youth spaces, counselling, café, workshops, exhibition and event areas, as well as a kindergarten. The design organises the programme as two clearly separated volumes that are brought together under one shared roof on the upper floors.
A gap between the kindergarten and the House of Youth separates routes and uses while providing clear orientation. A central stair landscape with an atrium connects the entrance, the street and Anton-Benya-Park, forming the communicative heart of the building. Stepped floors, terraces and planted roof areas extend the different worlds of use outdoors and turn the house into an open place for exchange, learning and encounter.
