The Melk Tribune is an acoustic intervention in public space, realised at the old Leopoldsbrücke in Melk, on a side arm of the Danube and opposite the abbey. The black, 18-metre-long body rises arrow-like into the sky and sets a deliberately different sign against the Baroque representational building: narrow, dark, walkable and charged with sound.

The installation was created together with artist Anna Ceeh for Public Art Lower Austria. Inside, the tunnel is activated by sound works by various musicians – a concentrated, intimate “One (Wo)man disco” between landscape, architecture and acoustic event. A staircase leads to a small viewing platform that opens up the view towards the abbey opposite.

Formally, the construction draws on El Lissitzky’s Lenin Tribune and translates its idea of stage, movement and political gesture into a precisely placed intervention. What emerges is not a viewpoint in the classical sense, but a walkable commentary on the site: between a side arm of the Danube, monastery, sound and public space.
